Coffee in India is a tale of two beans. While the world often reveres Arabica as the superior species, India presents a compelling case for Robusta.
Arabica: The Delicate High-Altitude Prince
Grown primarily in Chikmagalur, Coorg, and the Biligirirangan Hills, Indian Arabica is shade-grown. This is crucial. The canopy protects the plants from direct sun, slowing maturation and allowing complex sugars to develop. Expect notes of citrus, chocolate, and mild spices. It is low in caffeine and high in acidity.
Robusta: The Strong Lowland Warrior
Indian Robusta is not the harsh, rubbery filler found in instant coffee. Our 'Robusta Parchment' is washed and processed with the same care as Arabica. It grows at lower altitudes in Wayanad and Coorg. With double the caffeine of Arabica and a bold, creamy body, it is the soul of the traditional South Indian filter brew. It provides the 'kick' and the thick, golden crema.
